Now that you've got your custom LED neon sign, it's worth knowing how to take care of it. LED neon is far more durable and low-maintenance than the glass-tube signs it replaced โ there's no gas to refill and no fragile glass to worry about โ but a little basic care still goes a long way toward keeping it looking sharp for years.
Placement Matters
Give some thought to where you mount your sign. Keep it out of easy reach to reduce the risk of accidental damage, and away from prolonged direct exposure to extreme heat. If you're installing it somewhere it might encounter rain, humidity, or splashing water, make sure the sign and its power supply are rated for outdoor or wet-location use โ not every sign is weatherproof out of the box.
Keep It Clean
LED neon doesn't need daily attention. A quick dusting once a month is usually enough to keep it looking bright. Always turn the sign off and unplug it before cleaning, and stick to a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth โ avoid harsh chemical cleaners directly on the flexible tubing.
Protect the Power Supply
Use the power adapter that came with your sign, and avoid overloading the outlet or extension cord it's plugged into. When unplugging, pull from the plug itself rather than yanking the cord, which can loosen the connection over time.
Be Gentle at the Bend Points
Flexible LED neon is built to hold its shape once installed, but repeatedly bending, flexing, or repositioning a mounted sign can stress the tubing at the same points over time. Once your sign is up, try to avoid moving or reshaping it unless necessary.
Keep Bugs and Debris Away
Whether your sign is indoors or outdoors, small gaps and warm surfaces can attract insects looking for a place to nest. It's less common with indoor signage, but not impossible โ keeping the area around your sign clean and checking on it periodically helps prevent any buildup before it becomes a problem.
Get the Most Out of Your Sign
LED neon is built to be low-maintenance, but a few minutes of care now and then keeps it running at its best while using minimal energy. Follow these basics and your sign should stay bright for years to come.
